ABOUT US
At Bird On Stage, we create outsider theatre for outsider audiences, bold, unconventional, and unapologetically different. We are proudly Northern Ontarian, Torontonian, and Jewish-led. Bird On Stage was born out of a belief that stories, raw, risky, messy stories, are how we survive.
We are a scrappy, independent company made up of outsiders, misfits, neurodivergent thinkers, and emerging artists who never quite fit the mold. And so we built our own.
We’re here to make the kind of theatre that doesn’t apologize. Theatre that gets under your skin and stays there. The kind that makes people laugh unexpectedly, cry openly, and whisper “me too” in the dark.
We produce bold, boundary-pushing stories that don’t always get told about mental health, grief, queerness, generational wounds, religion, gender identity, class, loneliness, rage, hope. We offer a space where artists and audiences alike can come as they are messy, complicated, beautiful and belong.

Reviews
"An often hilarious and horrific cross between Sweeney Todd, Frankenstein, and American Psycho, peppered with a bit of the darkness of Hitchcock and Batman."
Our Theatre Voice
"Pigeon! is deliciously lurid, featuring some comically horrific props and performances fully committed to over-the-top, freaky antics."
Istvan Dugalin
"It’s in the heightened direction — by Abrams and Leitner — that the material comes to life......A wild bit of absurdist theatre that demonstrates a lot of pluck."
Glenn Sumi
"Co-directed by Robert Leitner and Garrett M. Ryan Abrams, the production moves at a steady pace without feeling rushed. The performances are uniquely eccentric, which adds to the intrigue of the story."
Our Theatre Voice
"The Inevitable Frankie Green is full of sound, fury, and a considerable amount of heart. The heart of the show and the commitment of the actors shines through."
Mark Kreder
"Garrett M. Ryan’s script turns this potentially corny, fanciful sci-fi conceit into a fascinating and, eventually, sympathetic person."
Istvan Dugalin
"The story itself was very intresting and moving on its own. The three leads give a strong performace that will stick with the audience after they leave the venue."

"Hosted this company at Fringe North 2018. Lovely to work with, so positive and professional. Great writing and an excellent effort by the actors. Fantastic peice all around."
